I decided to put pen to paper because I kept being told that by buying high end diapers I was not really saving any money. So I had to do the math to prove my point. Below is my chart:
Disposible diapers: 8 diapers a day for 36 months (3 years) is 8760 diapers ( i am using 8 diapers a day as a median, newborn babies will use 10-12 diapers a day and older babies will go down to 5-8 in disposables). A regular pack of diapers has about 36 diapers in it, so that makes 243 packs of diapers. And a lower brand costs about $8.50 a pack. So the total for diapers is $2065.50. And now lets include wipes. Based on about 5 wipes a day, that is 4562 wipes. They come in 80 count packs, 57 packs, which cost about 2.75 a pack. That is $156.75, added to the diapers, and the total is $2222.25
Exclusive Pocket Diaper use: I am going to use a very generous number of 36 Pocket Diapers, even though I do not personally use that many (I have 25 for a two day supply. Lily-Billy will be 1 June 6th, 2009). 36 Happy Heinys One Size Pocket Diapers with inserts at $18.95 each equals 682.20. Add twelve wipes to that at $22.00 and you get $704.20. Now, wow, is that not savings?
Prefolded Diapers and Covers: Ok, if you use prefolded diapers, we'll use a generous 36 prefolded diapers (would last about 2-3 days for newborn, longer for older babies), 4 diaper covers, and 2 Snappi Diaper Fasteners. That is only 116.58!!!!!
