Which Diaper Should I choose??

Being new to cloth diapering can be pretty intimidating.  There are so many new cloth diapering products that it is hard to decide what to get.  One thing thats for sure, things have come such a LONG way from when our elders cloth diapered us.  We have put together a list to help explain the different types of diapers you can choose from.  You can choose one or many different diapers for your diapering system.

Pocket Diapers are our favorite type of diaper.  They have a waterproof outer layer, and an inner lining usually made of fleece or suedecloth (which wicks moisture away from baby).  There is an opening in the back of the diaper to allow you to put inserts to absorb baby's tinkle.  These diapers usually close by snaps or velcro, depending on which brand you buy.  The legs and back are fitted.  The reason we love this diaper so much is that you can customize the absorbancy your baby needs by putting extra inserts for heavy wetters or at nighttime.

All-in-One Diapers are exactly what they sound like.  You don't need anything else.  Like the Pocket Diapers, they have a waterproof outer layer and an inner layer that wicks moisture from baby.  The difference is that they have the absorbant layers already inside.  There are usually 3 or 4 layers of absorbant material inside the diaper.  These also snap or velcro.

Fitted Diapers have elastic around the legs and the back so that they have a snug fit but are comfortable.  Fitted Diapers close with velcro or snaps.  These diapers are not waterproof and need a diaper cover.

Prefolded Diapers are rectangle shaped.  The middle part is thicker than the outside parts of these diaeprs.  The middle usually has 6 or 8 layers, and the outside parts 4 layers.  You fold them and hold them on baby with diaper pins or snappi's.  Prefolded Diapers need a diaper cover becaue they re not waterproof.  These are the most cost efficient cloth diapers but require a little more work.

Diaper Covers are needed for all diapers except Pocket and All-in-one's.  They are waterproof and made out of differant materials such as wool, polyester, fleece and wool.  You can choose diaper covers that snap, velcro, or pull up like underwear.
